"Cookies Are Made Of Butter And Love"

As a self-confessed cookie monster, I knew I had to give this concept a go the very first time I stumbled upon it. It's a popular gift idea in America and can be themed for any occasion with different recipes or ribbons. When filling the jar, it's a good idea to include the ingredients and directions - simply handwrite the recipe on a little card and fold it under the ribbon. Here's how to make your own...

Ingredients (in the jar)
- 100g soft brown sugar
- 125g caster sugar
- 225g self raising flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 200g chocolate chips
- 50g chopped nuts

Ingredients (from your kitchen)
- 125g butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
- In a large bowl, add the butter and sugars and whisk until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract and egg, whisk again.
- Mix in the flour, salt, chocolate and nuts and beat thoroughly until combined.
- The batter should be moist but not too sticky to handle. Roll the batter into egg-sized balls and transfer to a grease-proof baking tray, with space between each one.
- Bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 180C. If you want them to be soft in the middle, test after 7 minutes.
*Times will vary depending on the size of each cookie so keep an eye on the oven at all times!
