Bye Baby Bunting

Last Saturday, in anticipation of the Diamond Jubilee, Highland Angel attended a brilliant bunting masterclass at John Lewis in Edinburgh - because nothing says Jubilee more than a garden party, and nothing says garden party more than a bit of bunting.

Fabulous Fabrics

The masterclass - hosted by Polly in the haberdashery department - was great fun and other than the cost of our materials, completely free of charge. We spent much of the afternoon exploring the store's extensive offering of fabrics, ribbons, buttons and beads before finally mastering the art of pattern cutting, tacking, stitching and gossiping.

Cute As A Button

Our pretty bunting is slowly but surely taking shape and with a few finishing touches, will be ready to hang this weekend. John Lewis in Edinburgh is hosting another masterclass TONIGHT between 5pm and 7.30pm. If you're unable to attend, below is their brilliant step-by-step guide to making your own.

Hanging In The Rain - Test Run

John Lewis' five steps to the perfect bunting:
Step 1: Choose your fabrics - select complementary colours and prints that look appealing when placed together.
Step 2: Find a flag shape template online (or draw your own using an old cereal box) and place it on the reverse of your fabric. Draw then cut around it, repeating until you have plenty of flags. If possible, use pinking shears to avoid fraying.
Step 3: Evenly space the flags along your ribbon (2-5 metres, depending on how many flags you have) and pin in place.
Step 4: Sew on the flags with a straight stitch, leaving at least 20cm of tape free from flags at each end for hanging.
Step 5: Decorate the triangles with beads, buttons and stitches.
