Something Fishy

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down Your Hair {http://placestogothingstobuy.blogspot.co.uk}

Classy, quirky, pretty yet practical - plaits are a great hairstyle for any occasion. From French or Heidi to Knots and Twists, there are hundreds of complicated braids to choose from and it's easy to feel intimidated. The Fishtail (or Herringbone) braid is undoubtedly the most popular plait on the planet right now and luckily is one of the easiest styles. Here's how to get the look.

Star Style: Audrina, Leona, Blake & Selena

1. Comb through your hair to remove any tangles and tie in a low ponytail at the nape of your neck, using a thin hair elastic. If you want to plait your hair to the side, position your ponytail to the side. If you want your plait to run straight down your back, position your ponytail in the centre. Some people prefer to plait their hair while it is wet.

2. Divide your hair into two equal sections. Take a thin strand of hair from the outside of the first section and pull it across the first section, adding it into the second section. Smooth out both sections and pull them tight. (The smaller the strand of hair, the more intricate the braid will be. It will take more time to complete, but looks most effectice. Try to use the same thickness of strand throughout or your braid will be uneven.)

3. Repeat stage 2, on the other side - pull a thin strand of hair from the outside of the second section and weave it into the first section.

4. Continue with steps 2 and 3 until you reach the end of your plait. Tie your hair with a thin hair elastic and secure any loose ends with kirby grips. If you wish, carefully cut the top hair elastic to remove it from your hair, leaving a looser, more natural looking plait. If you think your fishtail is too tight, use your fingers to gently loosen the strands a little.
